The control system of the crane includes the following main functions: control of the main lift (boom control), boom rotation, trolley control, crane movement control, grab control (if the grab is not electric, where the automatic closure of the grab is adjusted when lifting).

As additional functions, special features are considered, such as cargo positioning systems (very important in ports for placing container cargoes), cargo counter-dragging system, a crane skew control system, an anti-collision system (accommodation and motion control of two or more cranes on one bridge), weight changes (weight control during overload). This functionality is performed at the request of the customer.

Radio control of crane

Radio control of crane is a remote control of a hoisting-and-transport mechanism using radio signal to equipment (basic equipment always consists of a receiver, a module for controlling a crane and a radio transmission unit and a control panel). The control panel, in its turn, can be presented as a joystick, an apparatus with buttons or a programmable logic glove. Thanks to transmitter power up to 5mW (and operating frequency bands from 415 to 483 MHz), such remote systems can be used without special permissions – this is a requirement to ensure safety when operating remote control systems.

Radio control is currently more a necessity than additional functionality for a crane control system, when there is an opportunity for the crane operator to be on the foot (especially if the lifting height of the load is large, and there is a need to perform precise operations quickly).

With the help of remote control systems, it becomes possible not to use the operator’s cabin and suspension consoles and to control the lifting-transport mechanism at any convenient point of the device’s operating radius. This is true for limited space accommodation crane beams (there is no place to accommodate the cabin).

The main advantage of the remote control system is a small device mass, ergonomics, low transmitter power and a large radius of application. To ensure the safety of the crane operator, it is possible to adjust the crane operation zones and monitor the location of the crane operator, so that when the crane operator is in the danger zone, an auto-stop of the load lifting mechanism can be done.

  • There is an opportunity to choose the best and safe points of work with cargoes;
  • It is easier to train personnel to work with a remote control system;

Anti-collision system

The anti-collision system is an additional functionality designed to monitor the location of gantry and bridge cranes, loaders and other equipment that runs on one track.

The system is based on ultrasonic displacement sensors, allows you to set up warning and dangerous distances between objects moving in the same axis, thereby ensuring the safety of equipment and safety of the process.

Weight measurement system

The weighing system is a ready-made solution for measuring transported loads with data output on an external display and transmission of information to the operator’s station.

The system is based on weighing cells and Siemens Siwarex measuring modules for the S7-300 controller.
In the system it is also possible to compensate for the weight measurement error by taking into account the measurement of the length of the cable.

Anti-jump system

The anti-skid system is a system for controlling oscillations, swinging of the load, caused by acceleration and deceleration processes.

Thus, all cargo oscillations are controlled by a vibration prevention system. This solution is designed for cranes operating on an open trestle and port cranes. Based on software  Siemens Simocrane SC / Simocrane CeSAR.

When using the anti-skidding mechanism of the crane lifting mechanism, the crane operator is relieved of the constant impact on the load in order to balance it, and can directly focus on lifting, positioning and lowering the cargo.

The anti-recovery system of the crane lifting mechanism autonomously monitors the deviation from the ideal position, monitors the trajectory of movement and calculates the speed required for the adjustment.

Electrical room

The electric room is a ready-made solution for placing the equipment of a crane control system in a separate mobile electric room.

Depending on the environmental conditions of the crane (dust, gas, temperature, etc.) for ease of maintenance and durability of the equipment used in the electric room, in addition to the main equipment of the control system, air conditioning, heating systems, lighting systems can be provided.

In the spring of 2019, INFOCOM sp. z o.o. for the Kharkiv Material Handling Equipment Plant LLC produced a special bridge crane KM 1648 ACS Container, with a lifting capacity of 16 tons.

The container is designed to accommodate the bridge crane control system. The system is based on the Siemens PLC of the S7-300 series and frequency converters of the Sinamics S120 series. The equipment is placed in the container on the panels installed on the vibration mount to prevent the effects of unwanted vibration when the crane is operating.

He necessary microclimate is maintained in the container to ensure the correct functioning of the control system, even when used in metallurgical workshops with high thermal radiation. When designing a container, a solution is provided to prevent the ingress of dust into the container (including conductive) in rooms with high dust levels.
